Customize Process in A3 Platform

A Process in A3 Platform refers to an entire software/system/product development life cycle. The Process view in A3 Platform shows the formation of life cycle in grid form, composed of Iterations, Phases and Disciplines. Initially, a default Process structure would be set up for you. It consists of Iteration 1.0, Phases I1 to I3, Disciplines Business Modeling, Requirements, Analysis & Design, Implementation, Testing and QA & Maintenance. You may customize it to your team's working practice.

In this tutorial, we will walk through the steps required to add Phase, Iteration and Discipline. Besides, we will also configure the content to present in Process cells. In order to complete this tutorial, you must have A3 Platform installed on your computer. The following project and users will be used throughout this tutorial.

  1. Project: Sample Project
  2. Users:
    1. Peter (Project Manager)

If you already have a running installation of A3 Platform, you may use your own project and users for this tutorial. Otherwise, please read the tutorial Download and Installation of A3 Platform to learn how to install A3 Platform and set up users and projects needed.

Add Phase/Iteration/Discipline

  1. Login as Peter.

  2. Open the Process page. This is where it shows the formation of the project's Software Development Life Cycle in grid form. Each cell reports the progress of Resources (Requirements, Activities, Issues, Artifacts) within the life cycle.

  3. Click Configure Process. Make sure you are the project manager. Otherwise, you won't see this button.

  4. Click New next to the Configure Process button. Select New Phase from the drop down menu.

  5. In the popup window, enter the name of Phase: 2.0.

  6. Decide on the Iteration(s) available in the new Phase. Select those needed to cover. Select I1, I2, I3.

  7. Click OK.
  8. Let's create an Iteration. Click New next to the Configure Process button. Select New Iteration from the drop down menu.

  9. In the popup window, enter the name of Iteration: I4.

  10. Set the Iteration period of the Iteration by entering the From Date and To Date.

  11. Decide the Phase that the Iteration should be covered. Select the Phase(s) needed. Note that you must select at least one Phase. Select 1.0 and 2.0. Click OK to confirm.

  12. Finally, let's create a Discipline. Click New next to the Configure Process button. Select New Discipline from the drop down menu.

  13. In the popup window, enter the name of Discipline: Review. Click OK when ready.

Configure Process Cell

A Process Cell in Process view shows the progress of resources in that cell. You can adjust the type of resource to show progress.

  1. Click on the Configure Process button.

  2. Look for the cell 1.0 > I1 > Business Modeling. Uncheck Activity to make its progress not to be reported in this cell.

  3. Show the progress of Issue in cell by checking it.

  4. Click Configure Cell again to confirm the changes.

  5. Click Configure Process to return to normal Process view.

  6. Click on the cell 1.0 > I1 > Business Modeling. You can see the Activity bar is hidden, while the Issue bar is shown. As no issue was created in this cell, it reports No Issue.
