XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) is an OMG standard for describing the structure for storing UML model in XML format. Agilian supports importing and exporting XMI 1.0, 1.2 and 2.1. XMI provides an extendable platform for development team to develop a code generator to generate code from UML models. The following screenshots show you how to export and import XMI in Agilian.

Step 1 of 5: Open the project

Open the project file for exporting XMI.

Step 2 of 5: To export XMI file

Export XMI file by selecting File > Export > XMI... from the main menu.

Step 3 of 5: Specify file path

Specify the file path of saving the XMI file, select the version of XMI to export, which includes version 1.0, 1.2 and 2.1, and select the appropriate encoding, if necessary. Click OK to start exporting.

Step 4 of 5: Edit the XMI file

With the exported XMI, you may import it to another application which supports XMI, or to edit it directly.

Import an XMI file by selecting File > Import > XMI... from the main menu. After that, specify the path of the XMI file to import.

XML aid information system to share data. Agilian supports importing and exporting full or part of a project in XML format. The exported XML contains all information of Visual Paradigm project file. There is also an option to export diagram preview images together. The following screenshots demonstrate how to export and import XML.

Specify the file path of saving the XML file, then select the scope of data, which can be whole project, or elements in particular diagram(s). Click OK to start exporting.

Step 4 of 5: Process the XML file Externally

With the exported XML, you may write a small applet to read the internal model structure to generate code, generate report or control other applications.

Step 5 of 5: To import a VP-exported XML file

Import an VP-exported XML file by selecting File > Import > XML... from the main menu. After that, specify the path of the XML file to import.

Agilian supports exporting and importing full or part of a project to separate Visual Paradigm project file (.vpp). The following screenshots demonstrate how to export and import Visual Paradigm project file.

Step 1 of 5: Open the project

Open the project file for exporting Visual Paradigm (VP) project file.

Step 2 of 5: To export VP project file

Export VP project file by selecting File > Export > Agilian Project... from the main menu.

Step 3 of 5: Specify file path

Specify the file path of saving the project file, select diagram(s) to be exported. Click Export to start exporting.

Step 4 of 5: Edit the project file

Distribute the exported project file to other users for reading the project data, or for performing further editing.

To merge external changes by importing an exported VP project file through selecting File > Import > Agilian Project... from the main menu. After that, specify the path of the VP project file to import.

MS Excel file import and export

Agilian supports exporting and importing Microsoft Excel file. Excel is the best tool for mass editing of model element names and properties. You may export diagram to Excel file, edit their names and properties in tabular format, and then import the changes back to Agilian. The following screenshots demonstrate how to export and import Excel file.

Step 1 of 6: Open the project

Open the project file for exporting Microsoft Excel (Excel) file.

Export Excel file by selecting File > Export > Excel... from the main menu.

Step 3 of 6: Specify file path

Specify the file path of saving the Excel file, select diagram(s) and the type(s) of model elements to be presented in the Excel file. Click Export to start exporting.

Step 4 of 6: Edit the Excel file

Read, analyze and edit the Excel file externally.

Step 5 of 6: To import Excel file

To merge external changes by importing an exported Excel project file through selecting File > Import > Excel... from the main menu. After that, specify the path of the Excel file to import.

Step 6 of 6: To confirm the changes

Changes resulted by importing Excel file, if any, are listed. You may click Save Details to record the changes in a separate Excel file. To proceed with importing, click OK.

Agilian supports import and export Eclipse UML2 XML file. The following screenshots demonstrate how to import and export UML2 XML file.

Step 1 of 5: Open the project

Open the project file for exporting EMF based UML2 model.

Export UML2 model by selecting File > Export > XMI... from the main menu.

Specify the file path of saving the XMI file, select Export for UML2, select the version of XMI to export, which includes version 1.0, 1.2 and 2.1, and select the appropriate encoding, if necessary. Click OK to start exporting.

With the exported UML2 model, you may import it to another application which supports UML2, and to perform edit in further.

You may accumulate large amount of UML, business process design and database design drawing in Visio. Agilian imports Visio drawing into Visual Paradigm project format. You can keep all your Visio drawing in Visual Paradigm format. The following screenshots demonstrate how to import Visio drawing.

Step 1 of 6: Prepare Visio drawing

Open the Visio drawing to be imported to VP.

Step 2 of 6: Produce XML Drawing (.vdx) file

Save the Visio drawing as an XML Drawing (*.vdx) file.

Step 3 of 6: To import Visio drawing

Import Visio drawing in VP by selecting File > Import > Visio... from the main menu.

Step 4 of 6: Specify file path

Specify the file path of the .vdx file saved from Visio, select whether to import the color and font defined, and whether to fit shape size. Click OK to start importing.

Step 5 of 6: Adjust the result

Review the changes that will be made by importing, and adjust the result by renaming elements, re-selecting element types, and even skip when importing. Click OK to import.

Continue modeling in VP.

Agilian imports Rational DNX files. You can import your entire DNX files into Visual Paradigm format. The following screenshots demonstrate how to import Rational DNX file.

Import the Rational DNX file in VP by selecting File > Import > Rational DNX... from the main menu.

Specify the file path of the DNX file, then click OK. Once the import complete, you may perform modeling in VP in further.

Agilian imports Rational Software Architect files. You can import your entire Rational Software Architect files into Visual Paradigm format. The following screenshots demonstrate how to import Rational Software Architect file.

Agilian imports AllFusion ERWin Data Modeler project files. You can import your entire AllFusion ERWin Data Modeler project files into Visual Paradigm format. The following screenshots demonstrate how to import AllFusion ERWin Data Modeler project file.

In ERwin Data Model, save the project as an XML file .

Import the XML file in VP by selecting File > Import > ERwin Project (XML)... from the main menu.

Specify the file path of the XML file, then click OK. After that, select the imported diagram(s) to open. Once complete, you may perform modeling in VP in further.

Agilian imports Telelogic Modeler project file. You can import your entire Telelogic Modeler project files into Visual Paradigm format. The following screenshots demonstrate how to import Telelogic Modeler project file.
