1. Use Case modeling

   SDE-IJ PE provides various use case modeling toolsets for analyst to identify, document and manage users' goal. UML use case diagram can be used to visualize actors, use cases and their relationships. Use case details editor lets analyst to document use case description, flow of events, pre and post condition. Both use case diagram and use case details editor information are grouped when generating use case documentation.

2. System analysis and design

   SDE-IJ PE fully supports UML 2.2 specification. Use case can be elaborated by sequence diagram or activity diagram. Structural layer of the system can be designed and documented in class diagram, composite structure diagram and object diagram. Sequence diagram, communication diagram, state diagram and activity diagram are designed for behavioral modeling. System deployment architecture can be documented by component and deployment diagrams.

3. Code and database generation

   SDE-IJ PE supports generating and reversing 10+ programming languages. SDE-IJ PE supports Java round-trip engineering. SDE-IJ PE supports MDA by generating platform independent model, class diagram and ERD to platform specific model, such as Java. Developer can draw class diagram, generate ERD by class diagram, generate code, generate database, generate mapping layer and then start writing business logic without worrying the mapping between databases and object model.

4. Impact analysis

   Dependences and relationships between model elements within the project analysis and visualize automatically within Matrix. Analysis Diagram show all related model elements in very detail view.

5. Documentation generation

   SDE-IJ PE generates documentation in MS Word 2007, PDF and HTML format. There are various options to control and customize the generated documentations. You may also develop your own documentation by using report writer[1].

6. Team collaboration

   SDE-IJ PE talks to VP Teamwork Server, Subversion, CVS and Perforce to provide a collaborative modeling platform. With the team collaboration features, team members can view and edit the same project, or even same diagram simultaneously. All changes will be stored in the above servers in revision basis.

7. Plug-in architecture

   SDE-IJ PE plug-in architecture provides an extendable platform for developers to add functions to SDE-IJ PE. Developers can reference to the plug-in development guide to build their own plug-in to read, update, retrieve and delete diagrams and model elements.

8. Interoperability

   SDE-IJ PE can import/export to XML, XMI, MS Excel and various image formats. SDE-IJ can import MS Visio drawing, Rational Rose project file, ERWin Data Modeler project files, Telelogic Modeler project files and System Architect business process diagram.
