Working on large scale projects would naturally call for more resources to complete an action than usual (e.g. generating a project report). To gear up for better performance at those times, you can increase memory size for VP Suite with the following steps.
Visual Paradigm for UML (VP-UML), Business Process Visual ARCHITECT (BP-VA), standalone DB Visual ARCHITECT (DB-VA) and Agilian
Windows Users
- Exit your VP application.
- Go to the /bin folder of VP Suite/ BP-VA installation directory.
- Create a blank new file with extension .vmoptions and the file name MUST be the same as that of the executable. For example, name it Visual Paradigm for UML 8.3.vmoptions if you are going to run Visual Paradigm for UML 8.3.

-
Open the file in a text editor (e.g. WordPad) and add the following:
-Xms256m
-Xmx1024m
- Save the file.
- Go to the /launcher folder under VP Suite or the /bin folder under the BP-VA installation directory.
- Create a blank new file with extension .vmoptions and the file name MUST be the same as that of the launcher of the executable. For example, name it run_vpuml.vmoptions if you are going to run Visual Paradigm for UML 8.3.

-
Open the file in a text editor (e.g. WordPad) and like we did earlier, add the following again:
-Xms256m
-Xmx1024m
- Save the file.
- When you start your VP tool (e.g. VP-UML) again, the memory parameters specified in the .vmoptions files will be applied.
Linux Users
- Exit your VP application.
- Go to the /bin folder of VP Suite/ BP-VA installation directory.
- Create a new blank file with extension .vmoptions and the file name MUST be the same as that of the executable. For example, name it Visual Paradigm for UML 8.3.vmoptions if you are going to run Visual Paradigm for UML 8.3.

-
Open the file in a text editor (e.g. WordPad) and add the following:
-Xms256m
-Xmx1024m
- Save the file.
- Go to the /launcher folder of VP Suite/ BP-VA installation directory.
- Create a new blank file with extension .vmoptions. Note that the name of the file MUST be the same as that of the launcher of the executable. For example, name it run_vpuml.vmoptions if you are going to run Visual Paradigm for UML.

- Open the file in a text editor (e.g. WordPad) and add the following (just like what we did earlier).
- Save the file.
- When you start your VP tool again, it will apply the memory parameters in the .vmoptions files.
Mac OS X Users
- Exit your VP application.
- Go to folder launcher of VP Suite/ BP-VA.
- Right click on the executable and select Show Package Contents from the popup menu. The name of the executable is "run_" + the product's short name, i.e. for VP-UML, the executable is run_vpuml. And for BP-VA, the executable will be run_bpva.

- Go to the Contents folder. Right click on the Info.plist and select Open With > Property List Editor.

- Expand the Java key and edit the VMOptions property as shown below.

- Save your changesand close the Property List Editor.

Please try to set -Xmx768m instead of -Xmx1024m
BTW, please use the bundled JRE (1.6)

I can use values below 768m and VPUML runs aparently without problems, but sometimes, when conecting to subversion server to open a project, doesn't download all elements (some diagrams or documentation just dont appear). I`ve been trying with higher values and i noticed that i can use values up to 960m loading all elements in the project, but the recomendation to set the Xmx to 1024 is still showing. Values higher than 960m just dont work, and the java error message is shown.

I normal usage, you don't need that much memory. We don't load everything until you need to use it. How about your contact our support team in following page to check your issue?
