1. Use Case modeling

   VP-UML PE provides UML use case diagram, use case grid, actor grid, use case detail and flow of events editor for system analyst to identify, analysis document and manage users' goals (system requirements). UML use case diagram visualize actors, use cases and their relationships. Use case details editor document use case description, flow of events, pre and post condition. Use case grid manages all use cases in systematic approach.

2. System analysis and design

   VP-UML PE supports al UML diagrams with advanced linking between diagrams. Use case can be elaborated by sequence diagram or activity diagram through sub-diagram. Structural layer of the system can be designed and documented in class diagram, composite structure diagram and object diagram. Sequence diagram, communication diagram, state diagram and activity diagram are designed for behavioral modeling. System deployment architecture can be documented by component and deployment diagrams.

   VP-UML PE supports generating and reversing 10+ programming languages. VP-UML PE supports Java round-trip engineering. VP-UML PE supports MDA by generating platform independent model, class diagram and ERD to platform specific model, such as Java. Developer can draw class diagram, generate ERD by class diagram, generate code, generate database, generate mapping layer and then start writing business logic without worrying the mapping between databases and object model.

4. Impact analysis

   Dependences and relationships between model elements within the project analysis and visualize automatically within Matrix. Analysis diagram show all related model elements in very detail view.

5. Documentation generation

   VP-UML PE generates documentation in MS Word 2007, PDF and HTML format. There are various options to control and customize the generated documentations. You may also develop your own documentation by using report writer[1].

6. Team collaboration

   VP-UML PE talks to VP Teamwork Server, Subversion, CVS and Perforce to provide a collaborative modeling platform. With the team collaboration features, team members can view and edit the same project, or even same diagram simultaneously. All changes will be stored in the above servers in revision basis.

7. Plug-in architecture

   VP-UML PE plug-in architecture provides an extendable platform for developers to add functions to VP-UML PE. Developers can reference to the plug-in development guide to build their own plug-in to read, update, retrieve and delete diagrams and model elements.

8. Interoperability

   VP-UML PE can import/export to XML, XMI, MS Excel and various image formats. VP-UML can import MS Visio drawing, Rational Rose project files, ERWin Data Modeler project files, Telelogic Modeler project files and System Architect business process diagram. VP-UML PE also can integrate with Eclipse, NetBeans and IntelliJ to provide intensive code synchronization functions.
