Q :What is Visual Paradigm Suite (VP Suite)?

Visual Paradigm Suite is a group of software designed to accelerate your development in the whole software development life-cycle. It includes Visual Paradigm for UML (VP-UML), Smart Development Environment (SDE), Business Process Visual ARCHITECT (BP-VA), DB Visual ARCHITECT (DB-VA), Agilian (AG) and DB-VA SQL (DB-VA SQL).
Q :What is DB Visual ARCHITECT for Eclipse (DBVA-EC)?

DBVA-EC is an easy-to-use object-relational mapping (ORM) environment. DBVA-EC provides a sophisticated UML Class Diagram and Entity Relationship Diagram for modeling the mapping between Object-Oriented view and Relational view. DBVA-EC also generates a cost-effective, reliable, scalable and high-performance object to relational mapping layer. The generated mapping layer includes the support of transaction, cache and other optimized feature. DBVA-EC increases the productivity and reduces the risk of developing mapping layer manually significantly.
Q :Where can I download the DBVA-EC?

Q :What user languages are available?

A :
Besides English, DBVA-EC comes with Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, German and Japanese.

Q :Can I install more than one copy of DB Visual ARCHITECT for Eclipse on the same machine?

Yes, you can install multiple copy of DB Visual ARCHITECT for Eclipse on the same machine.
Q :My Report Writer becomes grayed and inactive after creating a new report. Why this happen?

A :
We found that there are some problems for the Report Writer if the user's name contains space character. To solve this problem, please run Report Writer under a user account containing no spaces for its name.
Q :Can I use Report Writer on Linux?

A :
We are sorry that Report Writer currently only support Windows platform.
Q :I am unable to launch DB Visual ARCHITECT for Eclipse on Mac OSX 10.4. How do I start DB Visual ARCHITECT for Eclipse?

This problem could be caused by the JRE on the Mac OS X. PleasePRODUCTS_A3PLATFORM update the JRE to J2SE 5.0. More information can found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301073
Q :Can DBVA-EC connect to the Teamwork Server?

A :
DBVA-EC can connect the the Tamwork Server to perform teamwork operations (Modeler Edition or above). The build in Teamwork Client helps you to check-in/check-out the projects to and from the server also resolve the conflicts when needed.
Q :Did DBVA-EC have floating license?

A :
Yes, DBVA-EC have floating license (Modeler Edition or above), and it can connect with the Foloating License Server to obtain the license key.
Q :DBVA-EC is running slow on Linux. Why is this happening?

A :
This problem may happen if you are not running with Sun's JRE. It is recommend to run with Sun's JRE instead of other JRE. Sun's JRE can be downloaded at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/

Object-Relational Mapping (ORM)

Q :Did the generated persistence layer redistributable? It seems that some generated library is not belongs to my project.

A :
The generated persistence layer is redistributable. You can freely distribute it to your clients.
Q :What database server that DBVA-EC supports?

A :

Code Engineering

Q :How can I perform code generation/reverse engineering on DBVA-EC

A :
Code generation/reverse enginerring is a very natural action. It can be done through the Auto Synchronization or update manually. There is another handy way to doing the reverse engineering which is called Instant Reverse. Instant Reverse is a one-off reverse engineering options that can reverse various kinds of source/binaries into UML model.
Q :Does DBVA-EC support C++ code engineering?

A :
DBVA-EC doesn not support C++ code engineering. Please try DBVA for Visual Studio for more information on C++ code engineering support.
Q :Does DBVA-EC support .NET code engineering?

A :
DBVA-EC does not support code engineering on .NET languages. Please try DBVA for Visual Studio for more information about .NET languages code engineering support.
Q :Does DBVA-EC support support J2SE 5.0 code engineering?

A :
DBVA-EC does not support J2SE 5.0 code engineering at this moment. Our engineers are working on it. It should be available before the end of this year.
Q :When I was performing C++ Instant reverse, it said "No class construct is found in user's files". What does it mean?

A :
Class is the basic unit for performing the C++ Instant Reverse. Although C like source code can also be compiled by a c++ compiler, but it cannot be reversed by Instant Reverse.

IDE Integration

Q :What IDEs does DBVA-EC support?

A :
DBVA-EC supports the following IDE:
Eclipse 3.0 or above
Borland JBuilder 9 or above
NetBeans 4.0 or above
IntelliJ IDEA 4.0 or above

Q :Can I install both DBVA IDE Integration and SDE on the same IDE

A :
No. Installing both DB-VA IDE Integration and SDE on the same IDE may cause conflict and both of them will not work.
Q :Can DBVA-EC integrate with more than one IDE?

A :
Yes, you can install more than one IDE integrations on the same DBVA-EC. But only one for each IDE, i.e. you cannot install two Eclipse integration on the same DB-VA.
Q :Does DBVA-EC support integration with IBM WSAD?

A :
Currently DBVA-EC does not support integration with IBM WSAD. The reason is DBVA-EC needs to integrate with Eclipse 3.0 or above but since IBM WSAD is in Eclipse 2.x, therefore we cannot integrate with it.

Import and Export

Q :What version of XMI that DBVA-EC support?

A :
DBVA-EC supports import and export of XMI 1.0/1.2/2.1 for UML 1.0 or 2.0.
Q :Why there are no diagrams created when I import project from XMI?

A :
This is probably because there is no diagram information stored in the original XMI file. Please refer to the documentation of the tool from which the XMI file was created for more details.
Q :Does DBVA-EC suport import models from Rose or XDE?

A :
DBVA-EC supports import models and diagrams from Rational Rose only (.mdl file and its associated .cat files).
Q :What kind of Visio file does DB Visual ARCHITECT for Eclipse support to import?

A :
DB Visual ARCHITECT for Eclipse supports importing Visio file in .vdx format.

Plug-in

Q :What is plug-in in DBVA-EC?

A :
The DBVA-EC plug-in is a small program that can integrate with DBVA-EC and access to the models inside the projects.

Licensing

Q :What's the meaning of "non-commercial use"?

A :
"Non-commercial use" means user cannot use the software for making money (i.e. a commercial organization cannot use the community edition or personal edition on any production usage). If user need to use the produce on commercial usage, please select the modeler edition or above.
Q :Can I use DBVA-EC for internal training purpose in my company?

A :
Community Edition is only for "non-commercial use" only. For internal training purpose, please contact training@visual-paradigm.com for more information.
Q :How can I remove the pattern watermark when using the community edition?

A :
The pattern watermask shows because you have created more than one diagram of at least one diagram type. If there are more than one diagrams of any type, it will switch to evaluation mode. Diagram printed will contains pattern watermarks. To avoid the problem happening again, please create not more than one diagram of any type in Community Edition.
