Testing Management for Use Cases

The flow of events editor in VP-UML not just help you document the details of a use case, but also develop testing procedures. You can develop testing procedures side by side with your flow of events, without looking around for the details of your use case. This tutorial teaches you how to develop testing procedures using use case flow of events editor.

To develop testing procedures from flow of events:
  1. Open the use case details of use case Deliver Items.

  2. Switch to the Flow of Events tab.

  3. Press the Testing Procedures button on the right hand side of the flow of events to open the Testing Procedures dialog.

  4. Let's attach a main testing procedure to the normal scenario of the use case. Select Main from the dialog and press OK.

  5. Now the Procedures and Expected Results column are shown in the flow of events editor. Specify the testing procedures and the expect results as shown in the image below.

  6. You can create multiple testing procedures for the scenario. Press the Testing Procedures button again to open the Testing Procedures dialog.
  7. Press the "+" button and name the procedures as Exception (Items not available). Press OK to proceed.

  8. You can switch to other procedures using the popup menu next to Testing Procedures button. And you can hide away the procedures by selecting (Hide) in the combo box.

  9. The testing procedures can be output to various reports and you can create testing script reports through the use of custom report template feature.
